Hagar and Bonham
December 1, 1998 - Sammy Hagar will be teaming up with drummer Jason Bonham (son of the late Led Zeppelin drummer, John Bonham) for two special shows at the Cabo Wabo Cantina next week. Three nights have been set aside for the shows - December 8, 9 and 10. Sammy and Jason will be jamming on two of those nights. Sammy's new album, titled Red Voodoo, is scheduled to be released on March 23, 1999. Stay tuned for more Hagar updates as the release date draws nearer.
Lots of News! December 11, 1998 - Plenty has been happening this week in the world of Van Halen and David Lee Roth! Puerto Rico Show Cancelled (Again): Van Halen fans in Puerto Rico can't believe their bad luck. The Van Halen show that was due to take place tonight has been cancelled. According to the Official VH site, Gary has strep throat and tonsilitis, and has been advised by his doctor not to perform. Van Halen were originally supposed to play in San Juan on September 20, but the show was cancelled due to Hurricane Georges. Unreleased VH3 song auctioned: The remixed version of Once that was planned for release as a single a few months ago has been "leaked" to a collector and sold for US$256 on ebay. When the auction closed at 18:06 EST on December 10, 26 bids had been made for the rare CD, including one from a representitive of the band. Dave TV - Part II: The second installment of Dave TV aired on December 10 and 11. It featured two never-before-heard studio tracks! The first, titled Tramp, was a David Lee Roth solo track recorded in 1992. The second, titled Glitter, came from Van Halen's first ever demo tape! Hopefully an encore presentation will air soon for those who couldn't catch the show the first time.
Once Video 
December 28, 1998 - Back in July we reported that the next single from Van Halen III would be a remixed version of Once. Unfortunately, the executives at Warner Bros. decided against the idea and plans for the single were shelved. What we didn't know at the time was that David Bertinelli was hard at work producing a video for the single. David, a professional photographer who has worked with the band since 1980, shot and edited the video during the second half of the current tour. 
Two versions of the video were produced. The edited single version runs 4:12, the full-length album version clocks in at 7:40. Both versions will be available for download from this site (and mirrors) over the next few days! The videos are an Internet Exclusive! Van Halen have no plans to release them to MTV. Consider them a gift from the band to you, the fans who have supported them throughout this past year. While the full videos are being encoded, we present to you the following 30 second sneak preview in QuickTime format. Gem of the Day Dec 09, 1998 - The VHND has been given the Classic Rock Gem of the Day award for Dec 9, 1998. Thanks to whoever nominated us! 
Dec 20, 1998 - Sammy Hagar's upcoming solo album will now be titled Mas Tequila. The album was originally going to be named Red Voodoo. Varsity BluesDec 21, 1998 - Van Halen's Hot For Teacher, from the album 1984 will be featured on the soundtrack to the upcoming movie Varsity Blues. The film opens on January 15, 1999. |
