Showbiz gossip columns are still buzzing with the Van Halen reunion rumours.
This article
from the Orange County Register focuses on
the much anticipated Van Halen and Supremes reunions. It quotes New York concert industry
analyst Bob Grossweiner as follows: "They've already booked 10 stadiums, but who knows
with those guys? They don't talk to each other half of the time."
April 1 passed by without an announcement.
This article from the
"page six" gossip column of the New York Post was as
close as we got. It quotes David Lee Roth: "We've been holed up in Indianapolis,
trying to keep a lid on this. We're getting ready for a monster tour." Keep
in mind the publishing date: April Fools Day.
The wait continues...
New Hagar Album Due Later This Year
April 17, 2000 -
While Van Halen and David Lee Roth fans wait to see if the reunion rumours have any
merit, Sammy Hagar is getting on with the job. Last Friday saw the official launch
of Sammy's new web site,
cabowabo.com
The site features information about Sammy's Cabo Wabo cantina (formerly co-owned with
Van Halen), his own brand of tequila, and his new line of apparel.
On the recording front, Sammy is currently recording a new album. His
official site reports that the
initial plan was to record two songs for a planned anthology.
Apparently Sammy liked the songs so much he has decided to keep going and make a whole
new album. Tentatively titled "Ten Thirteen", the aim is to have the album released
around the time of Sammy's 53rd birthday (October 13, 2000).
Sammy's World Record Attempt
April 27, 2000 -
Sammy Hagar and an army of drinkers are planning to break the world record for the
most shots consumed at one time. The world record attempt will take place on Cinco de
Mayo (May 5) at Sammy's Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Fittingly, the record attempt will be made using Sammy's own Cabo Wabo Tequila.
The Red Rocker will also play three shows at the club with his band on May 2, 4 and 6.
The recording of Hagar's next album at his home studio is progressing well.
Four songs have been recorded so far, and are being shopped to
various labels. MCA dropped Hagar after the Red Voodoo album, allegedly due
to poor sales. This is a surprise, considering the album sold
317,486* copies. Marching To Mars sold
344,991* copies.
