Cherone's New Band Plays Surprise Gig
June 2, 2001 -
Tribe of Judah played a secret/surprise gig Wednesday night in one the clubs Gary's
been playing in for 20 or so years. The band was absolutely phenomenal.
Mike Mangini, who dropped out of Vai's G3 band for the Tribe had the best
drum solo that I've ever seen, hands down.
The band played 9 tracks from
their new disc, with a really cool vibe. Gary did 100% vox on the album,
but Pat Badger and Steve Ferlazzo handle the backup vocals. He played 2 VH
songs, one we've never heard live before (Once) and the other with a heavier twist
than on the Van Halen III tour (Without You... btw that closed the show). A few Extreme
songs made it in as well, NO more than words and that song wont appear for
quite some time.
This was just a public rehearsal of sorts that a lot of friends came down to
check out. Hell, they packed this club in the middle of nowhere.
Quite impressive. Gary's band is tight!
Also, his guitarist, Leo Mellace, sported a few Peavey Wolfgangs throughout the show.

Dec 31, 2000 - 2000: The Year In Review
2000 has come and gone, and I don't have to tell you that it was probably
the most frustrating year ever in the life of Van Halen fans. "No news is
good news" got old real fast.
