David Lee Roth Radio Interview
June 6, 2001 -
David Lee Roth was interviewed on 98.9 KQRC in Kansas at 9:45
this morning. Andrew Barrett heard the interview and sent the
following summary for the Van Halen News Desk...
Dave was being interviewed from the "Mojo Dojo"
where the DLR Band was preparing for the upcoming tour. Dave said that this is
where he has written all of VH's and his own solo songs, and prepared for all of his
own and some of VH's past concert tours.
He had his guitar with him, and was noodling around with Ice Cream
Man throughout the interview.
He is preparing "video and film evidence" of the tour preparations to
be released on a one hour video to be available for sale everywhere. He says
he's bringing "Club Dave" to everyone.
He's been preparing for the tour with his band and crew for 10 days
now. He hinted that he, himself, has been preparing for this for 18
months.
He has always stayed in contact with the DLR Band and crew from the
last tour.
On Ed: "I hope the best for him." Dave found out about the cancer
when we did. He says that Ed's had a lot of bad luck recently, and that he
hopes he gets better.
On a possible VH reunion: "Maybe next year, folks." "Maybe we'll
catch up with each other." "I'll be there when the Van Halen boys catch
up."
Didn't really have anything good to say about Gary. When Van Halen III was
brought up, the DJ made a comment about Gary singing the DLR-era songs
and subsequently questioned Gary's sexual orientation. Dave said "[If you
want to say that] phony-Cheronee rides the baloney pony [that's fine with
me]." He reiterated that he is the one and only true lead singer of VH.
When asked about the high ticket prices of the KC show ($75, $70, and
$65) Dave said he didn't understand why they were so high. He couldn't
believe it either.
The touring band is Bart Walsh, Ray Luzier, "a new guy on bass," and "a
few surprises."
Dave has been working out 3 mornings and 5 nights a week to prepare for
the tour.
When the possibility of a new DLR Band album was brought up, Dave said
that everything's going to be covered in the one-hour "Club Dave" video.
He didn't really give a definitive answer as to if there is going to be
another DLR Band album.
The DJ brought up that it is Steve Vai's birthday today, and Dave said
that he's still in contact with him, and that he and Billy Sheenan got
together at the Rainbow in Los Angeles to have a drink and discuss an
Eat 'Em And Smile Band reunion. He said that he was also talking
with Vai's people about reuniting.
Overall, Dave sounded great; his usual overactive and excited self. He
sounds really excited about the tour, and equally optimistic about a
reunion with either VH or the EEAS band in the near future.
Special thanks to Andrew Barrett for providing this very comprehensive
report!

Dec 31, 2000 - 2000: The Year In Review
2000 has come and gone, and I don't have to tell you that it was probably
the most frustrating year ever in the life of Van Halen fans. "No news is
good news" got old real fast.
