Cherone's Tribe Of Judah Play The House Of Blues
June 7, 2001 -
Tribe Of Judah, the new band featuring former Van Halen singer Gary Cherone, played
at the House of Blues in Cambridge, MA on Tuesday night. Joe O'Keefe was at the show
and provided this review...
I went to the show last night, just wanted to let you know it was very
very good. We met Gary before the show and said hi, we never really had
a long conversation. They started off with 3 new TOJ songs (see setlist
below) then "We should do something a little more familiar" and went into
"Tell Me Something I Don't Know" from Extreme which got everyone going.
After a few more new songs, Gary and the guitar player did an acoustic
number (very similiar to More Than Words or Josephina) called "Need I
Say More" which was excellent. Being a guitar player myself, I wanted
to see how the new guy did on Am I Ever Gonna Change, and he did it
flawlessly. Nuno was standing in front of him for that as well, not too
intimidating, huh?
The setlist said that they were supposed to do "Once" for the encore,
but did a funked up version of "Without You" instead. All in all a
great show. The new material is a heavy-groove-based-industrial mix.
The energy that they had live does not come through on the CD, but the
CD does sound great. The live experience just makes everything better.
It was good to see the guys from Extreme out again in a new band.

Dec 31, 2000 - 2000: The Year In Review
2000 has come and gone, and I don't have to tell you that it was probably
the most frustrating year ever in the life of Van Halen fans. "No news is
good news" got old real fast.
