On this day in 1954, Michael Anthony Sobolewski was born in Chicago, Illinois. Many publications
and web sites (including
this Associated Press article)
are still reporting his birth date as 1955, but this is incorrect.

Happy 47th birthday, Michael!
Mike has been quoted in two articles in the last week at the highly regarded
Launch web site. In the
first article
dated June 15, Mike told Launch about Eddie Van Halen's fight with cancer:
"Ed's doing great. The cancer, the tongue thing, stems from a little problem that he had over a year ago.
He was pretty much over it and had it all licked, and then he decided to put something on
our website to let people know what he had been
going through--because everybody wanted to know--and we kind of kept it quiet when it was happening.
He's doing great, and we're ready to rock. He's got a new hip. He's like The Six Million Dollar Man--he's
better than before."
In the second article
published yesterday, Mike gave Van Halen fans the latest info on what's happening with
the band:
"We're not gonna let our fans down. I can't say exactly when it's gonna be, but all I can say is
it's gonna be great. You know, Van Halen, we've always done it top-notch, and that's the way it's
gonna be."

Dec 31, 2000 - 2000: The Year In Review
2000 has come and gone, and I don't have to tell you that it was probably
the most frustrating year ever in the life of Van Halen fans. "No news is
good news" got old real fast.
