On the eve of the announcement?

March 26th, 2004

USA Today reports that that the first date of the Van Halen reunion tour is confirmed for Greensboro, North Carolina on June 11 with 29 shows across the nation reportedly booked through August. The second volume in Van Halen's Best Of series is now expected to be released in June, though it is still not clear if it will feature two or three new tracks with Sammy. The report further asserts that tickets will begin to go on sale the third of April with some manner of pre-sale through AOL on Wednesday, March 31. MelodicRock.com adds that we might also expect a full-page VH ad to run in Friday's print edition of USA Today.

Rumors continue to mount that today will be the day that the band breaks its long silence to confirm that the fans' suffering will soon come to an end. No one has yet been able to verify that a press conference is scheduled so we may see the news released via the wires or online first with a public appearance to follow once the world has had time to recover from the shock wave. So we may yet have to exercise some patience before we get a chance to get a look at the boys reunited for the first time since the last millennium, though we will have a chance to catch David Lee Roth playing cards with Tony Soprano and company on next Sunday's episode of The Sopranos.

The list of dates to watch has now grown to include the following. Please note conflicts yet to be resolved:

June 11 Greensboro, NC
June 13 HERSHEYPARK Stadium Hershey, PA
June 16 Wachovia Center Philadelphia, PA
June 19 or 22 East Rutherford, NJ Continental Airlines Arena "The Meadowlands"
July 10 Detroit, MI
July 19 Chicago, IL
August 1 Denver, CO
August 5 or 21 Phoenix, AZ
August 11 Fargo, ND
August 19 or 29 Los Angeles, CA

Dates previously rumored that now seem unlikely:

June 19, Mann Music Center Philadelphia, PA
October 10, Mellon Arena Pittsburgh, PA
