Dancing the Night Away with Dave, Eddie, Alex, and Wolfgang
Posted by uncommonbostonian

Van Halen made everyone jump up to their feet as soon as they came out onstage for their Tuesday night concert at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston. The reunion of David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen was wonderful. The two were with Eddie's brother, Alex Van Halen, on the drums and Eddie's son, Wolfgang, stood in for the absent Michael Anthony. There had been many years of strife between Eddie and David since David Lee Roth parted with the band back in 1985. Despite the very brief reunion ten years ago for a greatest hits album, there was little optimism that Dave and Eddie would reunite again.

During the concert, David Lee Roth showed everyone that he still can fit into tight black leather pants and do his trademark high kicks. Eddie was shirtless the whole concert while Wolfgang had red socks tied to his guitar's neck and Red Sox stickers on the front of his guitar, just to pay homage to the baseball team's victory at the World Series 2007. Alex belted out a drum solo during the midway point of the concert that had fans cheering on. The coup-de-grace was Eddie doing a guitar solo that captivated everyone in the entire arena.

They played the classic songs: "You Really Got Me," "Running With The Devil," "Dance The Night Away," "Pretty Woman," "So This is Love," and, of course, "Jump." The audience went wild as they did "And the Cradle will Rock." Their set focused on the first six Van Halen albums and not the later songs that were sung by Sammy Hagar, who first replaced Roth after he left the band, and Gary Cherone, who was Hagar's replacement.

Personally, i was thrilled to see Van Halen. It was the first time for me. Back in the late 1970s, I got Van Halen II as a birthday present when I was just a teenager. Seeing them live made me think about the days when I listened to that album over and over again and how jealous I was when Valerie Bertinelli of "One Day at a Time" married Eddie back in 1981.

Btw, I was the only black woman in Boston that listened to David Lee Roth's short-lived radio show on WBCN last year. Now, that's being devoted.
